Presented a paper on ‘The Struggle for Integration across barriers of Race and Language in a Canadian School’ on 17 June, 2010 at the Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris.

Presented a paper (with Maitrayee Deka) on Imagined Landscapes, Flexible Identities: The Dynamics of Class and Gender in Transnational Migration at an international workshop on Nepal-Indo  Migration in the context of South Asian Mobility Patterns organised by Martin Chautari, Kathmandu and the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Denmark, April 3-4, 2010, at Dhulikhel, Nepal.

Presented a paper on ‘Imagining Citizenship: Being Muslim, Becoming Citizens’ at an International Dialogue on ‘Citizenship and Civic Education: Pedagogy, Process, Practice’ at the University of Delhi held from February 11-13, 2009.

Presented a paper on ‘Pedagogy, Citizenship and Schooling in Contemporary India’ at a special event organized and chaired by Dr. Veronique Bouillier at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris on May 15, 2008.

Presented a paper on ‘Citizens in the Making: Schooling, Identity and Citizenship Education in two settings (a school in India and in Canada)’ at Ethnographic Dreamworlds, the annual Sociology conference at Buffalo State College, Buffalo, New York on April 18, 2008.

Research Projects (Major Grants/Research Collaboration)

Country Partner, EU FP7 EoroBroadMap Project 2009-2011.

Engaged in The Schools Project with graduate students at the Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, and Professor Murray Milner at the University of Virginia with funding from the University of Delhi. This is a long term project with students doing fieldwork in a variety of secondary schools in Delhi.

Engaged in an ongoing  project on Citizenship and Civic Education which includes fieldwork in secondary schools in India and abroad.
