The Department of PE.SS was established by D.U. in the year 2005 at IGIPESS with three Readers of IGIPESS recognized as Readers of D.U. To start with the department conducted the admissions for postgraduate courses of IGIPESS namely B.P.Ed. & M.P.Ed. consequently, proposals for B.A.(Application course and Disciplinary course), M.Phil and Ph.D were submitted to D.U.

Presently, the department conducts B.A. (Application Course) and B.A. (Disciplinary Course) and Ph.D. programmes in the subject of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. In addition, the department conducts Refresher Courses, seminars and conferences in PE & SS. The committee of courses of the department has recently approved eight short term self financing certificate courses. The resource materials for the same are being prepared. Two certificate course namely certificate course in wholistic personality Development and certificate course in Yoga are likely to be started in the academic session 2011-12.
