National Consultation on “Strengthening Probation in the Juvenile Justice System in India” - Department of Social Work (June 6 &7, 2025)
Resource Cell for Juvenile Justice (RCJJ) (Field Action Project of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai) and the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi jointly organized the first ever National Consultation on “Strengthening Probation in the Juvenile Justice System in India” which was held on the 6th & 7th of June 2025 at the India International Centre, New Delhi.
This Consultation was held as a part of the satellite event of the recently concluded 5th World Congress on Justice with Children, within the theme of “Advancing Child-Centred Justice: Preventing and Responding to Violence Affecting Children in Justice Systems".
The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker for the Consultation was Retd. Hon’ble Justice Shri. Madan B Lokur, Chairperson, UN Internal Justice Council, and the Guest of Honor was Shri Bharat Parashar, Member Secretary I/C, National Legal Services Authority. Prof. Bipin Jojo, Dean, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and Prof. Sanjoy Roy, Head, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi, were the special guests.
The Consultation had representatives deputed from 20 States and one Union Territory, reflecting the readiness of the states to engage in the subject of Probation. The participants consisted of Judicial officers holding the post of Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB), Social Work Members on the JJB, Probation Officers, Legal Cum Probation Officers, Deputed Government officers, Civil Society Organisations, Academicians, Research scholars, and a few independent lawyers.
